Long Time

Well it's been a loooong time since my last post. I blame this on mad revising then slightly crazy end of uni celebrations. Still I have decided not to give up on the blogging thing (it's the guilt!) and have now moved to Wordpress.com. The new site can be found at http://archaeogirl.wordpress.com/ or you can follow this link

Cheers!

And finally....

Well the dissertation deadline is on Monday and my printer has been working overtime. Can't believe it's almost over! Will be a very strange feeling once it's handed over in 2 days time. Come Monday it'll just be a matter of finishing my last exams and then Uni is done! Keeping my fingers crossed for postgrad funding as the thought of heading out to get a job is terrifying me.

Still, news on the job front, been offered a little dig supervisor job for over the summer. Paid and everything! Weird to go from a student to an actual (!) archaeologist so quickly. Hopefully I won't screw it up.

Now what to do with this blog? This is its real test. Does it continue after the dreaded dissertation has been handed in? We'll soon find out...

:D

Quick update

Dissertationing..........

Phew! Still busy 'catablogging' and the like for my dissertation and yet again this blog gets put on the backburner. I really don't think I'll ever be a real blogger. Maybe if there wasn't the link with the dissertation it might be a more enjoyable(!!) experience and I would feel more inclined to blog more. Who knows!!

Anyhoo just updating in the hope that the guilt stops :D

Just over a month to go and I'm still feeling completely overwhelmed by uni work..... yet have applied for a postgrad position! There really is no rhyme or reason with me!

Right! Back to work......

Dissertations, dogs and diabetes!

Well my new years resolution to keep this blog up to date fell on its ass before it even took off! Been short of time recently as I'm having to go back and forth from uni and home. Had a bit of sad news a while ago when one of my dogs was diagnosed with diabetes. Since he was diagnosed and was started on insulin injections he has gone blind. Happened so quickly that my folks need help from time to time with him. Don't seem to have any time at the moment! Still not long now till the dreaded (!!) dissertation has to be handed in so time is really slipping away now!

In other news, applied to go back to York for a summer of digging and drinking :-) Still waiting to hear back but hopefully I'll get the placement. Otherwise it's off to look for that graduate job....

Eeek!

Major blog neglect!

Ok so I'm guilty! Very guilty!

Was clearly enjoying myself too much over the Christmas period as I now have a pile of work building. Praying for some nice weather soon as that seems to help me get some work done. The dreaded dissertation has been slipping again with a new term starting and new deadlines looming. I should have listened when people said 4th year was the hardest!

New years resolution: Pull my finger out!!!

Merry Christmas

Well I'm off to bury myself under a pile of presents and wrapping paper but wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year before I go!

Hmmm mince pies......

Merry Christmas everyone!

How much is too much?

As you can probably already see from this blog I tend to only blog 2 or 3 times a month. Now this may seem very little but to me it has already been difficult to keep up. Is this simply because I'm a new blogger? I'm not sure. As most other bloggers of this kind will know it is often extremely difficult to find the inspiration to blog in the first place. But once that inspiration has been found and you begin to blog, how much is too much?

I was reading through a blog by Andrew Sullivan and he mentions how at any given week he can have a couple of hundred posts published on his blog. To me this seems excessive but then who am I to try and stiffen anyones inspiration or blogging methods. I would find it hard to find worthwile topics to publish on my blog that not only I found interesting but my readers as well. The last thing I want is to completely bore any readers or potential readers I have out there and have them abandon me entirely. By his own admission he acknowledges that readers would rather a few lines and a weblink than a 9,000 word treatise. So surely blogging a few hundred times in one week is overkill.

Generally blog subscribers have a number of favoured blogs which they might check on a regular basis. Who has the time to check enough to catch that many blogs in a week. At what point, since personal blogs are discursive; self-publishing and often self promoting, does your blog become indulgent and superfluous?
